3.1.29 Pulmonology

1. Study of respiratory organs, gas exchange and non respiratory function of lungs in experiment and in humans (in embryo- and phylogenesis, in age aspect, both in norm and in various pathological conditions) using morphological, histochemical, molecular biological, instrumental, culture, microbiological and other methods of research. 2. Clinical, biochemical, biophysical, immunological studies of the respiratory defense system in the norm and in various pathological conditions. 3. Etiologic and pathogenetic mechanisms of formation and development of hereditary and acquired diseases (infectious, allergic and oncologic nature) of the respiratory system using morphologic, biochemical, immunologic, genetic, molecular-biologic, functional and other, including experimental, methods of research. 4. Diagnosis and clinic of hereditary and acquired diseases of the respiratory system, as well as pathological conditions arising in extreme conditions, involving a wide range of laboratory, clinical and instrumental studies, using methods of statistical analysis and summarization of clinical data. 5. Study of indications, effectiveness and mechanisms of therapy of respiratory diseases, improvement of tactics and strategy of therapy and prevention of respiratory diseases, medical and social rehabilitation of patients, development of new therapeutic drugs using the methods of clinical pharmacology. 6. Lung transplantation in hereditary and acquired lung diseases. Study of indications, methods of preparation, transplantation and management of post-transplantation period. Typing and selection of histocompatible donors, creation of data banks on recipients. 7. Statistical observation and epidemiology of respiratory diseases. 8. Improvement and development of scientifically based indications and methods of intensive therapy, oxygen therapy, including long-term therapy at home. 9. Pharmacoeconomic and medico-legal aspects in pulmonology. 10. Organization of specialized pulmonological care for the population. 11. Study of the prevalence and peculiarities of the course of respiratory diseases, improvement of technologies of their prevention and treatment in the indigenous and native population in the Far North and equated areas.
