1. Development of new metallic, non-metallic and composite materials, including capillary-porous ones, with a given complex of properties by establishing fundamental regularities of the influence of dispersity, composition, structure, technology, as well as operational and other factors on the functional properties of materials. Theoretical and experimental studies of fundamental relationships of composition and structure of metallic, non-metallic materials and composites with the complex of physical, mechanical and operational properties in order to ensure the reliability and durability of parts, products, machines and structures (chemical, petrochemical, energy, engineering, light, textile, construction). 2. Establishment of regularities of physical-chemical and physical-mechanical processes occurring in heterogeneous and composite structures. 3. Development of scientific bases for the choice of metallic, non-metallic and composite materials with specified properties in relation to specific conditions of manufacturing and operation of parts, products, machines and structures. 4. Development of physical-chemical and physical-mechanical processes of formation of new metallic, non-metallic and composite materials possessing unique functional, physico-mechanical, biomedical, operational and technological properties, optimal production cost and ecological purity. 5. Establishment of regularities and criteria for evaluating the destruction of metallic, non-metallic and composite materials and functional coatings from the action of mechanical loads and external environment. 6. Development and improvement of methods of research and control of structure, testing and determination of physical, mechanical and operational properties of metallic, non-metallic and composite materials and functional coatings. 7. Theoretical and applied problems of standardization of new materials and technological processes of their production, processing and recycling. Quality management systems, certification and accreditation of materials and technological processes. 8. Development and computer realization of mathematical models of physico-chemical, hydrodynamic, thermal, chemo-rheological, phase and deformation transformations during production, processing, treatment and operation of various metallic, non-metallic and composite materials. Creation of digital twins of technological processes, as well as development of specialized equipment. 9. Computer-aided design of composite materials and functional coatings. Computer analysis and optimization of processes of obtaining and exploitation of metallic and non-metallic materials and functional coatings. 10. Development of methods for increasing the corrosion resistance of metallic, non-metallic and composite materials in various operating conditions. 11. Development of functional coatings for various purposes and methods of controlling their properties and quality. 12. Development of physical and chemical processes for obtaining functional coatings on the basis of new metallic, non-metallic and composite materials. Establishment of regularities of influence of composition, structure, technology, as well as operational and other factors on the properties of functional coatings. 13. Development of forecasting methods and estimation of residual resource of metallic, non-metallic and composite materials. 14. Development of scientific bases of complex utilization of raw materials, local raw materials and technogenic wastes for obtaining metallic, non-metallic and composite materials for parts, products, machines and structures. 15. Development of processes for obtaining new metallic, non-metallic and composite materials for biomedical purposes, establishment of regularities of influence of composition, structure, technology of obtaining, as well as operational and other factors on the properties of biomedical products. 16. Creation of metallic, non-metallic and composite materials capable of operation in extreme conditions: aggressive environments, electric and magnetic fields, elevated temperatures, mechanical loads, vacuum, etc.
